Custom pool cues by Wayne, a 2nd generation cue maker

EXOTIC WOODS
Shown below are some of the woods I use to build my custom pool cues.
There are others, but these are the ones I feel are most suitable for use in making a quality pool cue.

These images were accomplished using a flat bed scanner. What you see are the "raw" woods with no finish applied.
Once the automotive clear coat is applied the wood grains and colors will be more pronounced showing the true beauty of the exotic woods.

CURLY MAPLE-Undoubtedly the most popular and one of the most beautiful woods used in cue making today. Curly Maple may be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or an inlay material.

3rd Edition Blue Book of Pool Cues
We are listed in the 2nd & 3rd Edition of The Blue Book of Pool Cues

BIRDS EYE MAPLE-A unique & beautiful wood that may be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlays.

FIDDLE BACK MAPLE-Gaining it's name from it's popular use in making the backs of violins. Becoming difficult to find in premium grades. May be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlays.

COCOBOLO-Is an absolutely beautiful exotic wood even before the finish is applied. It may be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material. The grain color can range from black to red, to orange.

GABON EBONY-Is still very popular after being introduced into cue making decades ago.It may be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material. Deep black when finished with an automotive clear coating.

MACASSAR EBONY-(Sometimes called Striped or Tiger Ebony)The striping all but disappears after being coated with automotive clear caot. It may also be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material.

ZIRCOTE-Often mistaken for Macassar Ebony after being finished with automotive clear coat It may be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material. Very unusual grain pattern. Nasty to work with (lot's o dust) but beautiful after finishing.

BOCOTE-Is a long time favorite of many players. Forearm? Butt sleeve? Points? Inlay material? Absolutely!

BLOODWOOD-Ordinarily a deep red after being finished. Graining is not very prominent but a very solid exotic to work with. May be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material

RED HEART-Unlike Bloodwood, the graining is more prominent with an occasional  hint of lighter red. May be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material

TULIP WOOD-Looks great against Ebony and may be used as a forearm, a butt sleeve, points, or inlay material

AMBOYNA BURL-It's beauty speaks for itself!! Mother Nature did a great job with this one!

GONCALO ALVES-Made popular by the late Jerry Franklin of Southwest Cues. Forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material? Sure! Why not! Becoming difficult to find in high quality but worth the hunt.

PURPLE HEART-Always has been a popular exotic to use in cue making. May be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material.

PINK IVORY-Graining is not prominent and color turns much deeper when finished with clear coating. Undoubtedly the most expensive hardwood used in cue making today. May be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material.

VERA WOOD-May be used as a forearm, butt sleeve, points, or inlay material.

SNAKEWOOD-Also one of the most expensive hardwoods used in making pool cues. Not recommended for forearms but may be used for points, butt sleeve, or inlay material. Used with Ivory, beautiful!!
